Jan 20, 2018 · Factory-installed swivels are always 1/10” forward of center. The pre-war serial # on the butt reads with barrel to the right including I frame serial numbers on the fore strap. I wonder what it would cost to upgrade an old S&W M&P 15-22 to match the "Sport" improved changes. Last I checked, a set of the Magpul pop up sights cost about $80. Their handguards run $30-40. Newer S&Ws also have the SN inside the crane. It is possible the Highway Patrolman is pre model 28. If the gun is an N-frame and has a checkered topstrap, then its a Model 27. Your pistol dates to 1974-1975 and probably right in the middle of that date range. Serial numbers from A235001 thru A265000 were produced in that dare range. I assume the hammer and trigger on yours are case-hardened and the ejector is blued. If so, you have a nickel revolver from the factory. There should be a “N” on the cyl. face. .
